Putnam Blasts Three as 'Cats Sweep VCU

It's the first series sweep and the third series victory of the season for the Wildcats, who improved to 9-13 overall and 5-1 in the Atlantic 10. VCU fell to 4-19 and 0-6.
Putnam, who hit two homers in Friday's contest, went 4-for-5 for the third straight day and homered in the second, fourth and seventh innings. For the series, he hit .800 (12-for-15) with two doubles, five home runs, 14 RBIs and a 2.683 OPS, including a 1.933 slugging percentage.
Leadoff hitter Noah Jouras got the Wildcats rolling Sunday with a solo shot in the first, which sparked a four-run inning.
Anthony Torreso, in his second start, homered and doubled, while driving in four runs.
Left-hander Cooper Cavanaugh started in his debut appearance of the year on the mound after an offseason injury. He tossed a scoreless inning and struck out two.
The Wildcats utilized six pitchers, with Daniel Smith (2.1 IP, 4 Ks) and Ed Hall (2.2 IP, 4 Ks) recording the most outs.
