Putnam's Walk-Off Lifts 'Cats to Series Win

Putnam's three-run home run into a cedar tree at 10:27 p.m. delivered a 13-10 Davidson win, a doubleheader split and an Atlantic 10 Conference series victory over the Minutemen after nearly nine hours of baseball at Wilson Field.
Davidson trailed throughout the nightcap, including 6-0 early and 10-9 entering the ninth inning. But in the day's 18th inning, Jamie Daly's one-out, sky-high double over short gave the Wildcats life, and Cider Canon doubled him in to tie the game. The Minutemen then walked Michael O'Shaughnessy, setting up Putnam with one out and two on. His second homer of the season — and of the day, as he hit a two-run homer in the first game — left the yard in straightaway center, setting off a rowdy celebration at home plate.
It was the Wildcats' fourth homer of the game, following a two-run Noah Jouras blast in the sixth and solo shots by Canon and Jack Cotrone in the sixth and eighth, respectively. Putnam finished the game 4-for-6, while Jouras, Daly, Canon, Cotrone and Chris Schuchart had two hits apiece.
Parker Jones recorded the final seven outs and got his first win.
In Saturday's first game, Daly provided the highlight by hitting his team-leading fourth homer of the year a 13-8 UMass victory. Canon had three hits, while Daly, Putnam and Cooper Collins had two apiece.
The Wildcats exit the weekend 6-12 overall and 2-1 in A-10 play.
