Wildcats Meet Wolfpack Tuesday in Kannapolis

The Davidson baseball team will take the short drive over to Kannapolis Tuesday evening to meet N.C. State at Atrium Health Ballpark.

First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at the home of the Single-A Kannapolis Cannon Ballers.

SETTING THE SCENE
• Tuesday is the first meeting between the teams since a 2023 Wolfpack victory in Charlotte.
• N.C. State, which reached the College World Series last season, is the fifth Davidson opponent (of seven scheduled) that played in the 2024 NCAA postseason. The Wildcats have already had contests against Bryant, Clemson, South Carolina and Wofford and will also play VCU and Duke.
• Davidson is 3-0 at Atrium Health Ballpark, including wins over Wofford (2021), Western Carolina (2023) and Charlotte (2024).
• N.C. State will serve as the home team Tuesday.

LATEST ON THE 'CATS
• The Wildcats are 6-12 overall after winning two of three games against UMass in the first Atlantic 10 Conference series.
• Davidson won Friday's contest 9-3, then split a doubleheader Saturday, winning the nightcap 13-10 when Eli Putnam hit a walk-off, three-run home run to straightaway center.
• On Monday, freshman center fielder Jamie Daly was named A-10 Rookie of the Week.
• In the UMass series, Daly hit .462 (6-for-13) with a 1.357 OPS, including a .769 slugging percentage. He also doubled, homered and drove in four runs.
• Daly is the second straight Wildcat to receive the weekly league honor, following pitcher Jacob Vokal (March 11).
• Daly leads Davidson with a .386 average, a 1.251 OPS, six doubles, four home runs, 42 total bases, 14 walks and 17 RBIs.
• Outfielder Cider Canon is hitting .333 with a 1.072 OPS, four doubles, three homers and seven RBIs.
• Shortstop Jack Cotrone is hitting .310 with a 1.037 OPS, three doubles, four home runs and 15 RBIs.
• In its last appearance in Kannapolis, Davidson defeated Charlotte 9-3 on March 19, 2024, thanks to a five-run sixth inning. Noah Jouras tripled twice and drove in three runs in the game.

SCOUTING THE WOLFPACK
• N.C. State is 14-6 and most recently won two of three games against Virginia Tech in the first Atlantic Coast Conference series.
• The Wolfpack had won 11 straight games prior to Saturday's series finale loss to the Hokies.
• Infielder Chris McHugh is hitting a team-best .400 with a 1.125 OPS, four home runs and 29 RBIs.
• Infielder Justin DeCriscio is hitting .333 with a 1.042 OPS, and Alex Sosa (.314) has hit four home runs and driven in 20.

SERIES HISTORY
• Davidson and N.C. State first met in 1903, Davidson's second season.
• The Wolfpack lead the series 91-31 and have won the last 12 meetings.
• The Wildcats' most recent win was a 7-5 victory in 2000.
