‘Cats Kick off A-10 Tournament in St. Louis

DAVIDSON - After securing the final playoff position on the final day of the regular season with a 2-0 win against Rhode Island, the Davidson women's soccer team begins their playoff journey 6 p.m. Saturday against the top ranked team in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
This marks the third time in program history that the team has reached the A-10 Tournament. The team will be seeking their third-ever win in an A-10 tournament game, with the first also taking place in St. Louis in the 2020-2021 semifinals.
Second year head coach Riley Piechnick has led a major turnaround for the program, with the team doubling their win total from last year.
Davidson enters with a 8-7-3 overall record, with 4-5-1 record in conference play. The Billikiens enter with a 11-1-6 record, with an undefeated conference record of 7-0-3.

Davidson is playing the final game of the first round, with three matches taking place prior. No. 2 Dayton will host No. 7 VCU and No. 4 Fordham will host No. 5 St. Joseph's on Friday night, with both games kicking off at 7 p.m. No. 3 UMass will host against No. 6 Loyola Chicago at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The Wildcats have struggled away from home this year, collecting a 2-6 record while on the road. St. Louis has drawn half of their home games this year, amassing a 3-1-4 home record.
Davidson has only conceded nine goals across 10 league games, and 17 goals across 18 games, which is tied for the fourth least in the conference. St. Louis has only conceded three goals in conference play and nine goals in the regular season, both of which lead the A-10.
Maddie Moody leads the Wildcats with six goals, while Sophia Whiddon has team-high five assists and three goals. Emily Gaebe leads the Billikens with 12 goals and four assists.

St. Louis finished the season undefeated in conference play, leading the A-10 in goal (24), goals conceded (3), shots (219) and corners (70). Their sole loss on the season was to then No. 12 Penn State. The Billikens also picked up a ranked win at then No. 16 Xavier and a draw versus No. 4 BYU.

Unlike in the regular season, extra time will now be played if the teams are tied at full time. Two mandatory 10-minute overtime periods will be played. If the game is still tied after the extra 20 minutes, penalty kicks will then be used to determine a winner.
The eight-team bracket will be re-seeded following the opening round, with the highest remaining seeded team playing the lowest remaining seed in the semifinals.
