ST. LOUIS, MO - The Davidson women's soccer team saw the 2024 season come to a close in a 2-0 loss to No. 1 Saint Louis in the quarterfinal round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament Saturday.
The conference loss puts the Wildcats overall record at 8-8-3 and its league record 4-5-1.
In what was a season for the record books, the 'Cats made just their third appearance in program history at the A-10 Championships. Additionally, head coach Riley Piechnick became just the second coach in program history to lead a Wildcat women's soccer team to an A-10 Tournament appearance.
SJ Pak and Samantha McGee were the lone 'Cats to place a shot or goal for Davidson while Aleia Gisolfi-McCready lead the team with two total strikes.
The BIllikens got an early jump on the 'Cats scoring on a well executed corner kick in just the ninth minute of game action. Saint Louis continued to test Davidson goalkeeper Emily Smith over the first half of play, peppering 15 total shots, five of which were saved at the hand of Smith.
The Wildcats penetrated into the attacking third a handful of times over the first half, taking four shots and landing two on target.
However, a 59th minute penalty kick that was netted by Saint Louis' Lyndsey Heckel would give it a lead it would not relinquish on the way to a 2-0 victory.
Despite the loss, the Davidson defense was no short of impressive as they faced 27 total shots, with seven on target by the Billikens over 90 minutes and allowed just one goal in true game action.
Saturday's contest marked the final appearance for Emily Smith, Aleia Gisolfi-McCready, Katy Talotta, Katie McCormack, Maddie Moody, Alli Jacobson and Raine Jones, who all made great contributions throughout their careers at Davidson.
