
Four Multi-Goal Scorers Lead ‘Cats to 19-3 Win

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Four Wildcats scored two or more goals and 11 players in all recorded at least one point in helping Davidson roll to a 19-3 win at home Wednesday night over Gardner-Webb in women's lacrosse inside Richardson Stadium.
Playing its final non-conference game of the season, Davidson won its season-high third straight to improve to 5-3 on the season. The 16-goal win was its biggest since a 17-goal win (21-4) against Kennesaw State at home to open the 2015 season.
Genna Portner led the way for the Wildcats by scoring a career-high five goals, three of them in the first seven and a half minutes when the 'Cats opened up a 6-0 lead. Portner would score one more in the half and Davidson went into halftime up 15-0.
Freshmen Olivia Carey (goal, 3 assists- tied season high) and Tess Reiman (goal, 3 assists- season high) also recorded four points, a season high for both, while Sarah Kopp set a personal best with four points on a career-high tying three goals and an assist.
Jordan Wood and Sam Rippley each tallied hat tricks, with Rippley scoring her first three career goals. Shayne Antolini pushed her season assist total to a team-best 16 with three helpers, while Christine Molinari had two assists to give her a team-high 26 points.
Scoring her eighth goal of the season was Sophia Sgroi and freshman Katie Woodruff had a season-best two points on a goal and an assist. Rounding the offense was Shannon Blee with her 16th goal of the season.
Rose Woolson (3) and Delaney Guhman (2) combined for five saves, while Guhman recorded for the first time in her career two groundballs and a caused turnover.
Gardner-Webb (2-7) had three individual scorers on the night, as Amanda Stienmuller, Talen Francis and Emily Gilsdorf each scored.
The Wildcats had several season highs in the win, including goals, assists (13) and points (32). They dominated the box score with a 28-10 advantage in shots, 20-15 edge in groundballs and were a perfect 17-for-17 on clear attempts. Both teams had 12 draw controls apiece.
Kopp again led the team in draw controls with four to give her 31 on the season and had a team-best three groundballs and one caused turnover. Wood and Sgroi each forced two turnovers, while six Wildcats had two groundballs each.
Davidson takes an eight-day break before opening Atlantic 10 play at home next Thursday, March 29, against La Salle.
