DAVIDSON, N.C. – Trailing 5-2 at halftime, No. 4 seed Davidson scored eight unanswered goals to rally past VCU 10-5 and capture its first Atlantic 10 Women's Lacrosse Championship on Sunday at Davidson Stadium.
With the win, Davidson punches its ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history while improving to a school-record 15-4 overall. The 2026 NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Selection Show will air tonight at 9 p.m. on ESPNU.
First-round action begins May 8 on ESPN+, leading to the championship on May 24 at Northwestern.
Brooke Ross, who scored the game-winning goal with five seconds remaining in the Wildcats' 11-10 upset of top-seeded Richmond in the semifinals Friday, led the way this afternoon with three goals, including two in the final period.
Named Tournament MVP, Ross sparked Davidson's 8-0 run to close the game with a goal just over two minutes into the third period to cut the deficit to 5-3.
Two minutes later, Adrienne Leone scored off a feed from Keila McGrail to make it a one-goal game. Aeryn Curren tied the score at 5-5 with just over a minute to play in the third.
Curren wasted little time adding another goal, as the sophomore struck again 16 seconds into the final period to put the Wildcats up for good. Ross added two more goals shortly after Curren's eventual game-winner to put the game out of reach.
Kayla Joyce was remarkable in goal, once again stopping a game-high eight shots for the 'Cats.
The second-seeded Rams finished with a 24-22 edge in shots, but the Wildcats held a 14-10 advantage in shots on goal. Davidson, which forced nine turnovers, also finished with an 11-6 margin in draw controls while picking up 19 ground balls to VCU's 11.
Leone also added multiple scores for Davidson. Rachel Koeneke led the way for VCU with two goals.
