'Cats Advance To First A-10 Title Game In Program History

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Brooke Ross scored a game-winning goal with 4.7 seconds left in regulation to lift the Davidson Wildcats to an 11-10 victory over top-seeded Richmond in the A-10 Semifinals. With the win, the Wildcats advance to their first Atlantic 10 Championship game in program history. The last time the 'Cats made a conference title game was in 2013 as members of the Big South.
Similar to the quarterfinal round, the 'Cats jumped out to a 3-0 advantage early in the first quarter. Allie Hartnett, Jenna Skibbe, and Adrienne Leone each recorded a goal during this run. The Spiders responded with three unanswered goals from Meghan Rode, Juliana Stanley, and Bridget Lonsinger. Richmond had a chance at a four-goal run, but goalie Kayla Joyce picked up a critical save early on Meghan Rode with 11:34 left in the second quarter. From there, Davidson went on a two-goal run halfway through the second frame and led 5-3 at intermission.
Jenna Skibbe jump-started the Wildcats with a goal at the 12:40 mark in the third quarter. The Spiders responded again with three consecutive goals in the third frame and the game was tied, 6-6, with 2:59 left.
Davidson's Brooke Ross and Richmond's Juliana Stanley exchanged goals in the final minute of the third. The Spiders and Wildcats were tied, 7-7, after 45 minutes of action.
The fourth quarter featured three ties at 8-8, 9-9, and 10-10. It also featured four lead changes and every time there wasn't a tie, Davidson held the lead.
Kayla Joyce finished with 10 saves and eight ground balls for the Wildcats. Davidson's Kella McGrail recorded three ground balls. Brooke Ross led the way on offense with four goals and Jenna Skibbe added three. Devyn Martinez and Jacqueline Callahan contributed with two assists apiece. Martinez also scored a critical goal to put the Wildcats in front 10-9 with 4:29 left in the fourth quarter.

Davidson is set to face the two-seeded VCU Rams on Sunday, May 3 at 12 p.m. on its home turf. Both teams are seeking their first NCAA Tournament berth in this A-10 Championship game.
