DAVIDSON, N.C. –
Davidson baseball (10-5) returned to the win column Tuesday, downing visiting Harvard (6-7) 13-3 at Wilson Field.

Seniors Alec Acosta and Andrew Born led the offense, registering two hits apiece and each scoring twice. Acosta launched his third long ball of the season, a three-run shot over the left field wall, and junior Eric Jones also homered, his team-leading fourth of the year.

Junior Max Bazin and freshman Alex Mardiney also plated two runs each, and senior Cam Johnson added two RBI.

The Davidson staff had another strong outing, led by starter Josh Hudson's five innings of work where he allowed just two hits. Sophomore Jaret LaCagnina recorded the best outing of his young career, tossing three shutout frames allowing just one hit and fanning  a career-best seven.

For the 10th time this season, Davidson got on the board in the opening frame, taking a 3-0 lead on Jones' blast to left field that brought in both Johnson (who singled) and Acosta (who walked).

The 'Cats went on to score in the second, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings and held Harvard scoreless until the sixth.

Mardiney came home in the second courtesy of a Johnson sac fly, and after leading off the fourth with a double, Bazin and sophomore Brett Centracchio (who also walked) scored on the Acosta round-trip.

Davidson led off the fifth with back-to-back walks to Born and Bazin. Both came home; Born courtesy of a groundout from Centracchio and Bazin on a wild pitch.

The 'Cats completed their scoring in the sixth, beginning the frame with three consecutive walks to load the bases. On a 3-1 count, Born poked the ball through the left side gap, bringing home junior Justin Lebek. Sophomore Ward Coleman then crossed the plate on a sac fly from Bazin, and Mardiney again came home on a Johnson sacrifice.  Born himself added cushion, coming home on a wild pitch.

The Crimson avoided the shutout by taking advantage of bases loaded in the sixth with no outs, bringing in two by way of wild pitch and sac fly.

Davidson returns to action for its second midweek, welcoming (RV) NC Central for a 6:00 p.m. tilt.
