ARLINGTON, Va. – Davidson baseball suffered its fifth shutout of the season Saturday, falling 5-0 to Atlantic 10 foe George Washington at Tucker Field.
The 'Cats now sit at 22-18 and 9-8 in A-10, while the Colonials move back to .500 at 22-22, 6-8.
The 'Cats were limited to just two hits, as veterans Will Robertson and Jake Sidwell each connected on the afternoon. Robertson doubled in the second at bat of the game, becoming the program's all-time leader with an 18-game hitting streak. He has now recorded an extra-base hit in 13 of his last 15 games.
After the Colonials retired 10 in a row, Sidwell sent a screamer to drop into center field in the eighth.
Sophomore Justin Lebek prevented a potential big threat in the second, making a running catch in foul territory that hid him nearly over the fence and into the GW bullpen.
The Colonials were led by a dynamic pitching performance from freshman Elliott Raimo, who threw his first ever complete game, picking up a new career-high with nine strikeouts.
Sophomore Casey Sutherland delivered three dynamic innings of relief, allowing just one hit and retiring six in a row at one point.
Davidson and GW will face off in the rubber match Sunday, slated for a noon first pitch.
