THE SERIES
Davidson holds an overwhelming advantage over the Colonials, leading 17-4 all-time. The two squads faced off for the first time in regular-season league action last year, with the 'Cats taking the series after winning both the Saturday and Sunday contests.
The 'Cats fell on Friday in a narrow 3-2 defeat, but bounced back to win Saturday 7-4 and Sunday 8-7. Then-rookie Max Bazin hit .500 on the series, tallying four hits and scoring twice. Brian Fortier, Alec Acosta, and Jake Sidwell each also registered four hits in the series as Fortier scored three times.
Durin O'Linger shoved in the Saturday win, allowing just one earned run over eight innings where he walked just one and struck out three. Then-sophomore Evan Roberts made two appearances out of the pen, striking out four and allowing zero walks.
THE WILDCAT RUNDOWN
After taking a weekend off in league play, the 'Cats remain in the race for the Atlantic 10 Championships held in late May. The Wildcats lead the conference in home runs (38) and rank second in total extra-base hits (106), trailing by just four to Saint Louis. The veteran duo of Will Robertson and Brian Fortier continue to rank near the top or lead the league in multiple offensive categories, including home runs, total bases, RBI, runs, hits, and slugging.
Senior Will Robertson continues to carry a hot bat the second half of his final campaign. Since the halfway point on the year (4/7 at La Salle), Robertson boasts a .473 batting average with 26 hits, 17 RBI, 20 runs scored, and five homers. After his two-hit outing Wednesday against Wake Forest, Robertson has now matched himself for second-best in program history with a 16-game hitting streak. He is also ranked tied for fifth all-time with a current 33-game reached base streak.
Davidson tops the league in homeruns, currently with 39. Eight different Wildcats have hit a long ball this season, with six of them belting two or more. The 'Cats have hit at least one home run in 13 of their last 18 games. The squad ranks third total in hits with 369, trailing VCU and George Washington.
After the weekend, the 'Cats will have played 11 of their last 14 games on the road.
SCOUTING THE COLONIALS
George Washington enters the weekend coming off a 12-4 victory at Delaware State, and took one of three from Rhode Island last weekend. The Colonials have four starters hitting above .300, led by first baseman Bobby Campbell's .354 clip. He also tops the team with 37 RBI and seven HRs. Joey Bartosic also poses a threat, having swiped 22 of 25 bases this season and is tied with Campbell for a squad-best 57 hits.
