DAVIDSON, N.C. – Although the Davidson pitching staff held their opponent to just five hits, the Wildcats suffered a 2-0 loss Tuesday to Notre Dame at Wilson Field.
It was the second time the 'Cats have been shutout this year as they drop to 9-6, while the Irish improve to 4-11.
Seniors Will Robertson and Brian Fortier and junior Alec Acosta recorded the only hits for the 'Cats, while junior Cam Johnson walked twice. Sophomore pitcher Josh Hudson registered two perfect innings of relief, while junior Connor Gordon also put in two frames of work and recorded three strikeouts.
The Irish scored both of their runs in the top of the third, using three straight singles and a walk.
The 2-0 lead proved to be all that was needed, despite Davidson stranding a man on third twice.
Robertson tallied his hit right away, sending the ball through the left side of the infield in his first at bat. Acosta and Fortier joined the hit column in the sixth, when Acosta sent a ball back up the middle and Fortier doubled to deep left center to send him to third.
The 'Cats return to action Friday, welcoming St. Bonaventure for their Atlantic 10 opener. First pitch is slated for 6:00 p.m.
