'Cats Fall in Series Opener With Patriots

With the loss, the Wildcats slipped to 22-25 overall and 15-10 in the Atlantic 10, while the Patriots (34-16) moved to 18-7 in league play.
Michael O'Shaughnessy hit a two-run home run, his 15th, in the second inning, and Cider Canon (16th) and Anthony Torreso (8th) hit solo shots in the third to push the Wildcats ahead 4-3.
But Lucas Alberti changed the game with his two-out grand slam in the fifth. Then the Patriots added eight runs over the final four frames to pull away.
O'Shaughnessy finished 3-for-4 at the plate and took his season RBIs total to 61, one shy of Trevor Candelaria's school record (62 in 2022).
Noah Jouras added an RBI-double in the sixth, and the Wildcats scored two runs off two hits and an error in the seventh.
Starter Wilson Perkins threw 5.2 innings.
