Wildcats Top Patriots 6-4, Even Series

DAVIDSON — A five-run fifth inning — and some clutch pitching — proved pivotal for the Davidson Wildcats in a 6-4 victory over Atlantic 10 co-leader George Mason Saturday afternoon at Wilson Field.
The Senior Day win evened the weekend series and moved the Wildcats to 23-25 overall and 16-10 in league play. The Patriots (34-17) fell to 18-8 in the A-10.
Trailing 3-0 in the fifth, the Wildcats got back-to-back singles from Michael O'Shaughnessy and Chris Schuchart and tied the game on a Noah Jouras three-run homer to left, his sixth of the year. After Jouras' blast just cleared the fence, Eli Putnam's bases-loaded groundout gave the Wildcats the lead, and Adam Katz's RBI-single made it 5-3.
Davidson added an insurance run in the eighth when Jack Cotrone drew a two-out, base-loaded walk after a 10-pitch pitch at-bat.
Left-handed senior pitchers Isaac Fix and Matt Weber combined to limit the Patriots to five hits.
Fix threw five innings, allowing four hits and three earned runs and striking out seven. Weber took it from there, recording the final 12 outs. He allowed one hit and one earned run and struck out two.
