Wildcats Fall to Mason in Home Finale

DAVIDSON — Davidson's bats were limited to seven hits and two ninth-inning runs in a 6-2 loss to George Mason in the Wildcats' final home game Sunday afternoon at Wilson Field.
With the loss, Davidson exited the weekend 23-26 overall and 16-11 in the Atlantic 10 and tied for third along with Saint Joseph's and Saint Louis. George Mason (35-17) improved to 19-8 in league play, good enough for second place and one game behind league-leading Rhode Island.
The Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first by-way of four walks, then added two runs in the fifth and seventh and one more in the ninth to lead it 6-0 with the Wildcats down to their final three outs.
Davidson refused to go quietly, however, as Jack Cotrone knocked a one-out double to left, then scored when Jake Suarez reached on an error. JD Woodall then drove in Suarez with a two-out single up the middle.
Woodall and Noah Jouras led the Wildcats with two hits apiece.
Starter Cooper Cavanaugh threw two innings, allowed one earned run and struck out two, before handing the ball to the bullpen.
