'Cats Open Series with 10-7 Win over Spiders

With the victory, the Wildcats (24-26 overall) improved to 17-11 in Atlantic 10 play and unofficially clinched a spot in next week's seven-team A-10 Tournament, while Richmond (32-18) fell to 13-15 in league play.
Putnam took his season total to 17 home runs with a solo shot in the first, which was part of a back-to-back sequence with Anthony Torreso, and with a two-run blast in the fourth.
Jack Cotrone's two-run homer later in the five-run fourth pushed Davidson in front 9-7 and was the Wildcats' 92nd round-tripper of the year. That tied the program record set in 2023.
Michael O'Shaughnessy drove in the Wildcats' 10th run with an RBI-single in the eighth. His 62nd RBI of the year equaled the program mark set by Trevor Candelaria in 2022.
Torreso (RBI-single) and Noah Jouras (RBI-double) also drove in runs in the second and fourth, respectively. Putnam added a double for his third hit, and Cider Canon also had three hits, including two doubles.
Weber entered the game in relief in the fourth and faced the minimum of 18 batters in six innings. He kept the Spiders hitless and scoreless, while striking out three and walking one.
