'Cats Cruise by Hawks, Will Meet No.1 Rams Next

TYSONS, Va. — Michael O'Shaughnessy and JD Woodall drove in four runs apiece as fourth-seeded Davidson rolled past No. 5 Saint Joseph's 18-3 Tuesday in the first game of the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament at Capital One Park.
With the win, the Wildcats (26-27) advanced to face top-seeded Rhode Island at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rams, who won the A-10 regular season title with a 22-8 league record, had a bye on Tuesday, and Wednesday's head-to-head meeting will be the teams' first of the season.
On Tuesday, Woodall and O'Shaughnessy provided sparks early to lead the Wildcats. Woodall hit a two-run double in the second inning that turned into more when he was caught in a brief rundown between second and third. An errant throw hit Woodall in the helmet and caromed away, allowing him to regain his footing, round third and score. O'Shaughnessy then hit a two-run home run, his 17th, in the third to make it 5-2.
O'Shaughnessy added a two-run double in the sixth to push the lead to 8-3, while Woodall chipped in an RBI-double in the seventh and a bases-loaded walk in an eight-run eighth as the Wildcats put the game out of reach.
Eli Putnam joined O'Shaughnessy with three hits, and he drove in three runs, including a two-RBI double in the eighth, while Cider Canon (2), Jack Cotrone, Aidan Rice and Jake Suarez (2) also had RBIs.
Starter Wilson Perkins threw 4.2 innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs and striking out three. Matt Weber threw the next 3.1 innings and surrendered two hits and one earned run and struck out two before Adam Katz finished off the Hawks in the ninth.
