After a midweek clash at South Carolina Tuesday night, the Davidson Wildcats will return to the Palmetto State Friday to start a weekend series with No. 4 Clemson.
Â
Though the teams first met in 1903, it's the first meeting between the Wildcats and Tigers since 2011. The teams have not played multiple games in a season since 1953.
Â
LATEST ON THE 'CATS
• Davidson enters the weekend 4-7 after its 7-3 loss at South Carolina.
• Prior to that, the Wildcats won two of three games at home against Lafayette last weekend.
• Freshman center fielder Jamie Daly is off to a hot start in his college career. He leads the Wildcats with a .394 average, a .521 on-base percentage, a .763 slugging percentage, a 1.284 OPS, five "Daly doubles," three home runs and 29 total bases. He's tied with Jack Cotrone for the team lead with nine walks and 11 RBIs.
• It was Cotrone's three-run home run that gave the Wildcats an early lead against the Gamecocks this week. The senior shortstop is hitting .361 with a 1.111 OPS, three doubles and two homers.
• Junior infielder Michael O'Shaughnessy has hit two home runs and driven in eight runs.
• Senior left-hander Isaac Fix is setting the standard on the mound so far. The Wildcats' Saturday starter carries a 2.35 ERA and 1-0 record and is holding opposing hitters to a .212 average through 15.1 innings of work.
Â
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
• Clemson enters the series 12-1 and has won 10 straight games, most recently including midweek wins over USC Upstate and Presbyterian.
• Last weekend, Clemson swept in-state rival South Carolina, winning at home, at a neutral site and on the road.
• The Tigers have returning All-Americans in junior center fielder Cam Cannarella and right-handed pitcher Aidan Knaak.
• Left-handed pitcher Ethan Darden, set to start Saturday, is the reigning Atlantic Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week. In the series finale against South Carolina, he threw seven scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out six.
• The Tigers have put together back-to-back 44-win seasons and last year won their first NCAA Regional (Clemson) since 2010.
Â

• Clemson leads the series 28-9.
