Wildcats Fall at South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Jack Cotrone's three-run home run in the second inning gave the Davidson baseball team a lead it held for nearly six innings, but ultimately the Wildcats came up short 7-3 at South Carolina Tuesday night.
With the loss at Founders Park, the Wildcats fell to 4-7, while the Gamecocks improved to 10-3.
In the second, Cider Canon led off with a walk, and Forrest Lietz reached on an error, setting the stage for Cotrone, who belted his second homer of the year into the seats in left field.
Eli Putnam's first-inning single up the middle was the Wildcats' only other hit.
South Carolina took the lead in the sixth with five runs on four hits and two Wildcat errors.
Freshman right-hander Jacob Vokal started and threw three innings, allowing two hits and one earned run in a no-decision.
With two outs and the bases loaded in the fifth, Adam Katz toed the rubber and recorded a strikeout to preserve the Wildcats' 3-1 lead.
