The Wildcats lost the first game of the day 21-4, then rebounded with a 22-13 victory to salvage one series game.
Davidson exits the weekend 11-15 overall and 6-3 in league play.
Game 1
Dayton (13-17, 4-5) scored seven runs in the first inning, led 15-0 after four and never looked back in a 21-4 win.
The Wildcats were limited to a Michael O'Shaughnessy double for most of the game, but scored four runs in the ninth off two-RBI doubles by Landon Reeves and Gavin Thomas.
Six Davidson pitchers toed the rubber, with starter Isaac Fix (0.2 IP) taking the loss.
Game 2
It was Davidson's turn to light up the scoreboard in the series finale, and led by O'Shaughnessy's career-best, three-homer, nine-RBI performance, the Wildcats did just that, hitting a single-game school-record eight home runs en route to the 22-13 victory.
Davidson scored 11 runs in the first three innings and never lost the lead, though the Flyers got within three runs in the eighth.
O'Shaughnessy (5-for-6) hit a three-run homer in the seven-run second, a solo shot in the fifth and a grand slam in the ninth to finish just off the single-game school records set by Gus Quattlebaum on a four-homer, 10-RBI day against VCU in 1997.
Four Wildcats — O'Shaughnessy, JD Woodall, Anthony Torreso and Jamie Daly — homered in the second, matching a single-inning school record. The 2017 Wildcats did that against UMass, while the 2023 team hit four in an inning against Lafayette, including two off Reeves' bat.
Woodall's two-run blast was his first career homer. Cider Canon added a solo shot in the fifth, and Daly's two-run shot in the ninth gave him his second two-homer game. Torreso and Daly had four hits apiece.
Starter Cooper Cavanaugh threw three hitless and scoreless innings and struck out four before handing the ball to the bullpen.

The Wildcats will visit Duke on Tuesday.
