Wildcats Roll Past Peace in Season Opener

DAVIDSON — Wildcat guard Connor Kochera scored a game-high 19 points and Davidson scored 21 of the game's first 25 points en route to an 88-47 season-opening win over William Peace Monday evening in Belk Arena.
Kochera scored the first five Davidson points, was joined by four teammates in double figures and helped the Wildcats craft 19-1 and 15-0 first-half runs as they set the tone early and built a 44-17 lead by the intermission.
Out of the half, the Wildcats quickly re-established their control with a 10-0 run in the first 2:16, started by a Sean Logan dunk on the first possession and capped by the first of back-to-back Bobby Durkin treys. The Wildcats' lead first peaked at 41 after a Kochera layup made it 61-20 with 16:08 remaining.
Durkin connected on three 3-pointers and provided 15 points, while Reed Bailey added 11 points and a game-leading seven boards. Zach Laput scored 13 in his Davidson debut, while fellow newcomers Roberts Blums (4 points), Manie Joses (2) and Joe Hurlburt (1) also scored their first points in a Wildcat uniform.
The Wildcats, who assisted on 23 of their 36 buckets, finished with lopsided advantages in rebounds (44-29), points in the paint (60-6), points off turnovers (29-4) and fast break points (22-4).
