Wildcats Return to A-10 Play at Richmond Friday

4/29/2021 8:10:00 PM | Baseball

The Davidson baseball team hits the road Friday afternoon at Richmond in its return to Atlantic 10 Conference play.

The 2 p.m. contest is the first of a four-game weekend set, which will feature a doubleheader of seven-inning games Saturday and one game Sunday.

The Wildcats (20-18, 4-8 A-10) are coming off a 17-12 non-conference loss at Wake Forest Tuesday night. John Hosmer and Ruben Fontes hit their team-leading 10th home runs, and Trevor Candelaria hit his ninth.

The matchup with the 14-6 Spiders, who have yet to play a conference game due to various COVID-19 protocols, will be the team's first since the 2019 A-10 Tournament, when the Wildcats won a 6-3 elimination game. The teams' scheduled 2019 series in Davidson was canceled due to rain, and the Wildcats took two of three games in Richmond in 2018.

League leaders
Davidson leads the A-10 with 49 home runs, while Fontes and Hosmer are tied for third individually and Candelaria ranks fifth in the league.

Alex Fedje-Johnson's 13 doubles are second in the league, and Ryan Wilson is tied for the most hit-by-pitches (15).

On the mound, Nolan DeVos leads the A-10 with seven saves, and Blake Hely (58.1) and Gabe Levy (57.0) rank 2-3 in innings pitched.
