Wildcats Lose Series Opener at Richmond

Davidson is now 20-19 overall and 4-9 in league play, while Richmond improved to 15-6 by winning the first A-10 game its been able to play.
Candelaria's solo shot to right gave the Wildcats a 3-0 lead in the third inning, as the junior outfielder from Durango, Colo., became the third Wildcat to reach double-digit home runs this season. John Hosmer and Ruben Fontes each hit their 10th homers three nights ago at Wake Forest.
Fontes drew a bases-loaded walk in the fourth to plate Jacob Hinderleider and make it 4-2. But the Spiders closed the gap to one on Dominic Toso's RBI-double in the fifth, then scored three runs on one hit and one error in the sixth to take control for good.
Davidson scored one run in each of the first three innings, as Henry Koehler drove in Alex Fedje-Johnson on a bases-loaded walk, and Fedje-Johnson singled home Hinderleider in the second.
Gabe Levy got the start and threw 4.1 innings, surrendering 10 hits and three earned runs in the no-decision.
Danny Rosenfield (2.1) and Will Schomberg (0.2) covered the final three frames without allowing a hit.
