Davidson-Richmond Box Score (PDF)
RICHMOND, Va. – Davidson baseball dropped its Sunday finale to Atlantic 10 foe Richmond, falling 10-6 at Pitt Field. The 'Cats still took the series after winning both Friday and Saturday's contests.
The Wildcats drop to 25-14, 10-5, while Richmond improves to 20-18, 6-6.
Sophomore Ward Coleman was the only two-hit performer for Davidson, while the senior pair of Andrew Born and Cam Johnson each scored twice and Johnson homered.
The 'Cats wasted no time, putting up four runs in the opening frame. Born and Johnson each worked walks, then classmate Alec Acosta doubled to bring home Born. He and Johnson then each scored after sophomore Brett Centracchio ripped a line drive single into center field.
Centracchio stole second, took third on a wild pitch, and scored on a passed ball.
Richmond cut the lead in half, scoring twice in the bottom of the inning on a double, then tied the game and subsequently took the lead with six runs in the third on five hits and a pair of walks.
The Spiders added a run in the sixth in a strange way. After their leadoff man reaching via single, a lineout nearly turned double play resulted in a throwing error instead, and the runner was awarded two bases and then scored on a sacrifice fly.
Johnson chipped away at the lead, launching his fourth long ball of the season over the right center wall on the first pitch he saw in the seventh, bringing home Born (who walked) in the process.
Richmond scored again on a double and sac fly, putting their lead to its final 10-6.
Davidson threatened in both the sixth and eighth innings, leaving a pair of men on in each.
The 'Cats will next face nationally-ranked Duke in a rematch from a few weeks ago, this time playing at BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte Tuesday.
