RICHMOND, Va. – Davidson baseball picked up its fourth consecutive Atlantic 10 series Saturday, picking up its third shutout of the season after downing Richmond 3-0 at Pitt Field.
Davidson improves to 25-13, 10-4 in league play while Richmond drops to 19-18, 5-6.
Southpaw Evan Roberts delivered a dominant performance on the mound, tossing the first complete game shutout of his career, scattering just four hits. He retired the side in three separate frames.
Junior Eric Jones turned in a 3-for-5 day and doubled twice, while the senior duo of Andrew Born and Cam Johnson each collected two hits.
The game was a pitcher's duel through six innings, as Richmond's starter Aaron Winkler threw a career-long outing as well.
In the seventh, the 'Cats finally broke the blank, when sophomore Greg Lowe worked a full-count walk to lead things off. He advanced on a liner to left field from junior Max Bazin, and both moved up on a bunt single down third from Born.
Johnson then took a five-pitch walk to bring Lowe home and get Davidson on the board. Bazin added cushion on a sacrifice fly from senior Alec Acosta, and Born scored on a double from Jones.
The Wildcats conclude their three-game set with the Spiders Sunday, slated for a noon first pitch.
