DAVIDSON, N.C. – First baseman Bobby Campbell's 3-for-5, two-RBI performance helped lift George Washington over the Davidson baseball team, 3-2, Friday night at Wilson Field.
Down one heading into the final at bat, Davidson (16-13, 4-2 A-10) tried to rally with two Wildcats in scoring position on two outs but George Washington's (11-19, 2-1 A-10) closer Eddie Muhl retired Sam Foy to secure the win for the Colonials.
Despite three Wildcats with multiple-hit performances, George Washington edged the Wildcats, 11-10 in hits, while Davidson committed three errors. Jake Sidwell led the squad, going 2-for-4 with one-RBI.
On the mound, Bobby LeWarne (4-2) pitched the first 7.1 innings, allowing two runs – both earned – off nine hits with three walks for the win. Muhl picked up his eighth save of the season.
Clark Beeker (6-1) pitched the first 8.2 innings, allowing three runs – two earned – off 11 hits with five strikeouts. Evan Roberts pitched in relief and retired the final Colonial with a strikeout.
After the two teams traded runs in their first at bats, George Washington scored runs in the third and fourth to make it a two-run ballgame.
Davidson cut the lead to one in the seventh when Sidwell singled up the middle on two-outs that scored Alec Acosta but it was not enough to overcome the Colonials.
The two teams will return to the field tomorrow, April 9 for a 2 p.m. first pitch.
