SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – In addition to Durin O'Linger's flawless performance on the mound, two singles and a passed ball in the ninth helped lift the Davidson baseball team to a 1-0 victory over Saint Louis Saturday afternoon at the Billiken Sports Center. The win evens the weekend series to 1-1 heading into game three Sunday.
The Wildcats (22-21, 9-8 A-10) sparked a rally off two singles in the ninth, which led to the first pitching change of the day, before a walk loaded the bases. Davidson capitalized on a passed ball and made it a 1-0 ballgame heading into Saint Louis' final at bat.
O'Linger (6-3) retired the final three batters to secure the victory. The senior put in a stellar performance on the mound, limiting the Billikens (18-25, 9-5 A-10) to just seven hits with five strikeouts in 111 pitches for his first complete game and shutout of his career.
Davidson was edged in hits, 7-6, while both teams were perfect defensively for the second-straight game. Two Wildcats led the way with two hits, including Brian Fortier and Jake Sidwell, who both went 2-for-4, while Sidwell scored the winning run.
Miller Hogan (3-7) also put in a strong performance on the mound, limiting Davidson to six hits, which were all singles, with 11 strikeouts in 8.2 innings. Nick Vichio appeared in relief, recording the lone walk of the game.
The two teams will return to the field tomorrow, May 1 at 1 p.m. ET to conclude the series.
