'Cats Set to Host Winthrop Tonight at 5 PM

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The Davidson baseball team returns to Wilson Field Tuesday, April 26 to host Winthrop at 5 p.m.
The Wildcats (21-19, 8-7 A-10) hold a 16-10 record at Wilson Field this season and are coming off a 1-2 weekend against Fordham. Prior to the weekend series, Davidson recorded an impressive 12-10 come-from-behind victory it's first meeting against the Eagles at the Winthrop Ballpark last Tuesday. The Wildcats put in their best offensive performance of the season, out hitting Winthrop, 19-11, with the help of three Wildcats recording three-or-more hits.
On Monday, freshman Max Bazin was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for leading the Wildcats with a .667 batting average, thanks to two perfect games. Against Winthrop, the Charlotte, N.C., native went 3-for-3 with one RBI and three runs scored, before leading the team with a 4-for-4 performance on Sunday against Fordham. Bazin finished the week with eight hits, one RBI, four runs scored and four walks for a .750 on-base percentage in addition to 2-for-2 in stolen bases.
Jake Sidwell leads the squad with 41 hits, including five doubles, and 20 RBI for a .339 batting average. On the mound, Clark Beeker leads the team with an impressive 1.69 ERA, allowing just 15 earned runs with 53 strikeouts in a team-high 79.2 innings. Beeker leads the conference in wins (7), ERA (1.69) and innings pitched (79.2).
Winthrop (21-20, 8-7 Big South) has won five of the last eight contests as it is coming off a 2-1 weekend against UNC Asheville. Anthony Paulsen leads the Eagles with 61 hits, including seven doubles, and 31 RBI for a .355 batting average. Winthrop is batting .281 as a team. On the mound, Sam Kmiec leads the squad with a 3.47 ERA, allowing 35 runs - 28 earned - off 81 hits in a team-high 72.2 innings pitched.
