‘Cats Complete Sweep At St. Bonaventure with 16-1 Win

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – A grand slam from left fielder Nathan Becker in the third helped the Davidson baseball team complete its second-straight A-10 sweep with a 16-1 win at St. Bonaventure Sunday afternoon in the series finale at Fred Handler Park.
With the win, the Wildcats improved to 21-16 overall and 11-7 in the Atlantic 10, while St. Bonaventure dropped to 14-18-2 on the season and 2-13 in the conference.
For his first homerun of the season, Becker homered over the centerfield fence that increased the Davidson lead to 5-0 to give the Wildcats early momentum. Then, multiple runs in the final three at bats secured the victory for Davidson as it outhit the Bonnies, 16-5, and committed just one error. Right fielder Lee Miller led both teams for the second-straight day with three hits, including a homerun, three runs and two RBI in five at bats.
Miller completed the weekend going 8-for-16 with three homeruns, eight RBI and six runs scored.
In addition to Miller, four other Wildcats recorded multiple hits, including second baseman Sam Foy who finished the day with a 2-for-3 performance with three RBI and two runs scored.
With only going scoreless in just three innings, Davidson capped off the victory with five runs off six hits in its final at bat.
St. Bonaventure got on the board in the fifth as a passed ball allowed the Bonnies to record an unearned run.
On the mound, RHP Ryan Lowe had an impressive day, holding SBU to just one unearned run off five hits with five strikeouts in 8.2 innings for the win. Freshman RHP Josh Smutzer threw the final out as he faced two batters.
Three Bonnies saw the mound for St. Bonaventure, including RHP Steven Klimek who allowed six runs, which were all earned, off four hits with six walks and four strikeouts.
Davidson will return home for a mid-week matchup Tuesday, April 28 when it hosts Elon at 6 p.m.
