Highlights

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Despite two Wildcats going 3-for-4, the Davidson baseball team's late rally fell short as it fell to Winthrop, 6-5, Tuesday night at Wilson Field.

Outfielders Lee Miller and Will Robertson led both teams as they both went 3-for-4 with an RBI for Davidson. Playing left field, Robertson picked up two doubles and also scored a run, while right fielder Miller scored a team-high two runs.

Davidson (18-16) was edged in hits, 11-10, while committing one error compared to Winthrop's none. Four other Wildcats picked up a hit on the day, including third baseman Ben Arkin who also tallied a team-high two RBI.

After the two teams traded runs in the second, Winthrop (28-14) went ahead with five-straight runs in a four-inning span.

The Wildcats found momentum in the seventh, picking up three runs off three hits, including two-straight doubles. After a RBI double to left center from Robertson, pinch hitter Cam Johnson highlighted the inning with a double down the left field line to score Robertson that cut the Winthrop lead to 6-4.

After holding the Eagles scoreless for the third-straight inning, a RBI single from Miller in the eighth put Davidson in reach heading into its final at bat, but the 'Cats stranded one for the loss.

On the mound, LHP Freddie Sultan got the win for Winthrop, allowing one run off four hits with three strikeouts in the first five innings of play. Three other Eagles threw for Winthrop, including RHP Joey Strain who picked up the save in the final inning.

LHP Nick Neitzel got the loss for Davidson, allowing four runs off four hits with four strikeouts in the first 2.2 innings. Six other Wildcats came to the mound, including RHP Matt Saeta who silenced the Eagles in the final 1.1 innings.

Davidson will be back in action when it travels to St. Bonaventure for an A-10 weekend series starting Friday, April 24 at 3 p.m.
