'Cats Drop Opener in Extra Innings

DAVIDSON — A late, game-tying RBI-single by Davidson's Matthew Manjooran forced an extra inning Friday night, but Bryant ultimately edged the Wildcats 6-5 in 10 innings in the 2026 season opener.
Manjooran's second RBI-single of the night — in his college debut — came with two outs in the ninth and the Wildcats trailing 4-3. Pinch runner Gavin Thomas scored on the play to tie it.
Bryant then scored two runs in the 10th before Anthony Torreso's RBI-single got the Wildcats within a run.
Fredy Diaz (RBI-double) and Theo Loughlin (RBI-single) drove in runs in the fifth, via their first college hits, while Will McCullough (single) and Brendan Fritch (double) also notched their first hits as Wildcats.
Starter Wilson Perkins threw 4.1 innings in a no-decision (6 hits, 3 ER, 4 Ks).
Ed Hall threw the next 4.1 innings, struck out seven and allowed two hits and an earned run.

With rain in Sunday's forecast, the teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12:30 p.m.
