Davidson Dominates Rhode Island, 18-7

DAVIDSON, N.C. – In their first ever meeting, the Davidson Wildcats defeated the Rhode Island Rams 18-7 Saturday afternoon in Atlantic 10 women's lacrosse action.
With the result, Rhode Island drops to 4-5 overall and 0-3 in A-10 play, while the 'Cats improve to 6-3 (2-1 A-10).
Jenna Skibbe, who recorded her 8th multi-goal game of the season, scored the first goal of the contest off a feed from Riley Cochrane just one minute into the game. Josie Lambert dominated on the attack and finished with a game-best 8 goals, bringing her season total to 29 scores.
Thanks to scoring from Skibbe, Lambert, Adrienne Leone and Payton Cheedle, the 'Cats took a 7-3 lead in the first quarter. Rhode Island's defense responded however, holding Davidson to only three goals in the second, but the Wildcats held onto a 10-6 lead at halftime.
After the intermission, the Wildcats came out strong again with three-straight goals from Skibbe, Lambert and Jacqueline Callahan. In addition to the scoring surge, netminder Kayla Joyce held the Rams scoreless with three saves in the third period.
In the final frame, Davidson added five goals to the box score, while allowing the Rams to score just once more, and ran away with the 18-7 victory.
In all, Joyce made nine saves after facing 16 shots on goal. Cochrane recorded five points off three goals and two assists, and Callahan dished three assists for a four-point day.
