'Cats Top Richmond in A-10 Battle

3/12/2025 4:42:00 PM | Women's Lacrosse

DAVIDSON - For the first time since 2016, and just the second time in program history, the Davidson women's lacrosse team defeated Richmond 14-11 in Atlantic 10 competition Wednesday afternoon.

The marquee win improves the Wildcats' record to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference, while the Spiders fell to 4-4 and 1-1 in league play.

Adrienne Leone and Jenna Skibbe combined for seven goals with four and three, respectively, to help propel Davidson to the midweek victory. Leone landed all four of her shots on goal, while Skibbe was 5-of-6 on targeted shot attempts.

Josie Lambert (two goals, one assist), Jacqueline Callahan (one goal, two assists), Devyn Martinez (one goal, two assists) and Kella McGrail (one goal, one assist) were the Wildcats' remaining multi-point scorers on the afternoon.

Kayla Joyce was the goalkeeper of record, making 11 saves over a full 60 minutes in net for Davidson.

With the score knotted 11-11 and 5:25 to play in the fourth, Leone started Davidson's final push, netting her 12th goal of the season and fourth of the contest to give the 'Cats a one-goal lead.

Sophomore Skibbe followed suit with a strike of her own on a clean-up from a Spider turnover before Lambert put the game on ice, landing the Wildcats' 14th and final score of the contest with just 53 second on the clock.

Davidson opened the game with six first-quarter goals while holding Richmond to only two before the Spiders answered back with five of their own in the second, while Davidson netted two.

With just a one-goal advantage out of the halftime break, the Wildcats were outscored 3-2 in the third before dominating the final period 4-1 on the way to the 14-11 win.

Overall, the Spiders won 15 of 29 draw controls, while the Wildcat defense forced seven turnovers and went 20-of-21 on clear attempts.
