Nolan Hits For The Cycle As Wildcats Top Hawks

MERION STATION, Pa. — Parker Nolan hit for the cycle — the first known in program history — to lead the Davidson Wildcats past Atlantic 10 foe Saint Joseph's 6-2 Thursday afternoon.
The senior center fielder secured the elusive accomplishment with an eighth-inning double down the left field line, which drove in Michael Carico from first and helped seal the seventh straight win for the league-leading Wildcats.
Nolan knew he was within reach of one of the game's special achievements when he stepped up to bat in the eighth.
"I was trying to push it out of my brain a little," he said.
"Parker had a unique game today," said coach Rucker Taylor, whose team improved to 38-9 overall and 16-3 in the A-10. "He had some great at-bats that were pivotal in the game. He's been good all year and excellent in center field."
Hitting third in the order, Nolan reached base on a single back to the pitcher in the first inning. He tripled to right center in the third and hit his 13th home run of the season in the fifth to make it 3-1. For good measure, he also drove in a run in the sixth on a bases-loaded walk. Nolan finished the day 4-for-4 with three RBIs and has been overwhelmed with the support he's received from friends and family since news of the cycle spread.
"My phone's been blowing up," said Nolan. "It's been amazing to see how many people are following the 'Cats."
The Wildcats took an early lead in the second inning, executing a double steal play that scored Jacob Hinderleider from third. Jake Wilhoit's RBI-single in the fourth pushed the Wildcats ahead 2-1, and Ryan Wilson's bases-loaded walk after Nolan's in the sixth made it 5-1.
Trevor Candelaria also walked in the sixth to reach base for the 40th straight game, and Hinderleider and Jacob Friend finished the day with two hits apiece.
On the mound, Nolan DeVos improved to 7-2 with a five-inning effort. He allowed one earned run and five hits and struck out seven before Will Schomberg recorded the next five outs.
Bennett Flynn threw the final 2.1 innings, allowing one hit and striking out one, while earning his fifth save.
