'Cats Fall After Late Rally at Appalachian

The loss drops Davidson to 31-8 overall, while App improves to 14-24.
The Wildcats entered the ninth trailing 8-3, but with one out to spare, got two runs across on a Ryan Wilson double and another on a Henry Koehler double before Anthony Mase cleared the bases with a triple into the left-center gap to put Davidson ahead 9-8.
The difference, though, proved to be a two-run bloop double by App pinch hitter Jacob Whitley with two outs in the next half inning.
Michael Carico and Jacob Hinderleider homered early for the Wildcats. Carico's solo shot to left, his team-leading 14th, came in the fourth and tied the game at 1-1. Hinderleider hit his eighth round-tripper of the season in the fourth inning, tying it at 3-3.
A Wilson RBI-double pushed the Wildcats ahead 2-1 in the third.
Trevor Candelaria went 2-for-4 and turned in his team-leading 19th multiple hit game. He singled in the first and doubled in the ninth.
John Hosmer drew four walks, and Jacob Friend started the ninth-inning rally with a leadoff single.
The Wildcats utilized five pitchers, with Will Schomberg recording the most outs. He threw three innings, allowing three hits and three earned runs and striking out four.

The Wildcats return to Atlantic 10 play Friday when they begin a road series at Saint Louis.
