'Cats Host Winthrop Wednesday in Battle of Unbeatens

Nineteen NCAA baseball teams entered this week undefeated, and two of them will meet Wednesday night at Wilson Field.

Davidson and Winthrop, set for a 6 p.m. start, are both 7-0. It's the Wildcats' best start since 1907.

The Wildcats have earned series sweeps of Lehigh and Georgetown and also defeated N.C. Central in a midweek contest last week.

Winthrop opened the season with a three-game series win over Maine and won all four games against Canisius this past weekend.

Both teams are also among the 23 with team ERAs of 2.00 or below. Davidson ranks 18th nationally with a 1.86 ERA, while Winthrop is tied for 20th (2.00).

The Wildcats and Eagles will also meet on May 6 in Rock Hill, S.C. The Eagles won both matchups last year: 7-4 on March 13 in Charlotte's BB&T Ballpark and 9-3 on April 9 at Winthrop.

Levy honored by the A-10
Davidson sophomore Gabe Levy was named Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week on Monday.

Against Georgetown on Friday night, he tossed seven shutout innings and struck out nine while allowing just three hits.

Through two starts and 14 innings, Levy is 2-0 with an 0.00 ERA and 19 strikeouts. Opposing batters are hitting .157 against the right-hander.
