DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson baseball (13-5) earned its fourth straight victory Saturday, taking the series with a 4-2 win over visiting Mount St. Mary's (3-9) at Wilson Field.
Junior Eric Jones and senior Alec Acosta each recorded two hits apiece in the win; Jones launched his team-leading fifth homer of the season while sophomore Ward Coleman and freshman Alex Mardiney each doubled.
Veteran Evan Roberts moved to 3-1 on the season, and the combined bullpen of freshman Pete Bloomberg, senior Connor Gordon, and junior Austin Leonard allowed just one hit through the final three innings. Gordon struck out the side looking and Leonard earned his second save of the season.
Davidson had to work from behind after the Mount plated two runs in the opening frame courtesy of a walk, double, sac fly, and single sequence.
The lead was short lived, after Acosta singled through the left side in the first and sophomore Brett Centracchio walked to put two on for Jones. His blast, a moonshot over right field, put the 'Cats up 3-2.
Senior Andrew Born added insurance the following frame, leading off the inning with a single, advancing to second on a groundout, and moved to third on a throwing error from a failed pickoff attempt. Acosta brought him home on a gap single through the left side to make the score 4-2.
The Mount threatened, leaving at least one runner on in four innings, and two in two.
Davidson and Mount St. Mary's are slated for the Sunday finale at noon.
