THE SERIES
Davidson and La Salle have met just four times in program history, with the 'Cats holding a 3-1 advantage. The teams last played in 2015, during the 'Cats first year in the Atlantic 10. Davidson took two from the Explorers, winning 11-10 in extra-innings Friday, being shutout Saturday 8-0, but bounced back to win 2-1 Sunday and take the series, their first ever in the league. Then-freshman Alec Acosta scored twice and picked up three hits on the weekend, then-sophomore Jake Sidwell turned in two hits, a run, and RBI, and classmate Tyler Agard played the hero card Sunday, singling to left field to bring in both runs Sunday. Then-junior Westin Whitmire tossed 2.2 innings, fanning three, and then-sophomore Josh Smutzer picked up a win.
THE DAVIDSON RUNDOWN
Davidson was paced in their victories last weekend by the long ball, using a grand slam from freshman Brett Centracchio to secure the win Friday, and a solo shot from senior Will Robertson on Sunday to tie the game and swing the momentum in the 'Cats favor.
Thanks to his big week at the plate, Centracchio was dubbed the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, just the second ever Wildcat to earn the distinction. Centracchio recorded four hits, including two homers, and tallied seven RBI.
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS
La Salle enters the weekend on a two-game winning streak, having downed Delaware and Delaware State earlier in the week. The Explorers are 6-20 overall, but just 1-5 in league action. Sophomore Ben Faso leads the squad with a .312 batting average, three homers, eight doubles, and 13 RBI. Junior Austin Constantini sits close behind him at .311, while classmate Yan Carlo Rivera has a team-high five stolen bases. The team earned its first A-10 win last Sunday, when sophomore righty CJ Pruitt tossed a complete game, scattering just five hits and allowing one run while striking out nine.
