THE SERIES
High Point owns an 11-5 all-time advantage, but the two teams have split their last two contests, both by way of extra-innings. Earlier this season, the Wildcats cranked out 16 hits, with five players registering multi-hit performances, led by sophomore Justin Lebek's 3-for-4 day, and classmate Eric Jones and senior Brian Fortier each homered in the affair.
THE DAVIDSON RUNDOWN
The 'Cats picked up the series win in their Atlantic 10 opener, downing St. Bonaventure 9-2 and 9-2, before suffering a 17-4 setback Sunday. In the first two games, Jones and junior Cam Johnson each collected four hits and scored three times.
Davidson entered Sunday ranked second in the league in both batting average and ERA (.285) (4.00), and Brian Fortier ranks second in the nation with eight homers on the season. Fortier is second in the league in hits (26) and RBI (21), fourth in runs scored (17) and doubles (7), and first in total bases (57). Junior Josh Smutzer tops the league with four victories.
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
High Point enters Tuesday right below .500 at 8-9, most recently falling 2-of-3 as they opened Big South play against Liberty. Junior Austin Zente leads the Panthers at a .282 clip, is tied for a team-best 14 runs, and is in a three-way tie for the lead with four homers. He homered and picked up another hit in the game with Davidson. Former National Player of the Week Carson Jackson also has four home runs and 14 runs, posting a .253 average. Jackson went 5-for-6 against the 'Cats, including a first-inning, take-the-lead homer, and a double.
UP NEXT
Davidson returns to Wilson Field for its second conference weekend, welcoming Preseason favorite Rhode Island. The Rams have received votes in the national polls, and tout two-time Pitcher of the Year in junior Tyler Wilson.
