HIGH POINT, N.C. – Davidson baseball suffered its third shutout of the year, falling 7-0 to High Point at Williard Stadium in High Point.
The 'Cats slip to 11-8 on the season, while High Point moves to above .500 at 10-9.
Davidson was limited to five hits and left two runners on in each the first, second, and seventh innings. Sophomore Justin Lebek went 2-for-4, tallying his sixth multi-hit contest of the year. Senior Will Robertson, sophomore Eric Jones, and freshman Brett Centracchio collected the other Wildcat singles.
The Panthers used five hits in the first, including three straight doubles, to take the quick 4-0 lead. They tacked on another two runs in the third, taking advantage of an error, walk, and sacrifice fly. A leadoff double followed by a single in the fifth plated the seventh High Point run.
The 'Cats pitching staff retired nine straight Panthers from the fifth to the seventh innings, courtesy of hurlers Austin Leonard and ZJ Zabinski. Zabinski delivered perhaps one of the best outings of his young career, going 1.1 innings and fanning three, including back-to-back Ks in the seventh as he faced the minimum.
The 'Cats return to action Friday, facing preseason favorite and 2016 A-10 Champions Rhode Island in a three-game stint.
