Fortier’s Single Lifts ‘Cats over High Point in 10

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Brian Fortier's single up the middle helped the Davidson baseball team to a 6-5 come-from-behind victory over High Point in extra innings Wednesday night at Wilson Field.
With the game tied at four, the two teams exchanged runs off two errors apiece before Fortier drove in Sam Foy in the 10th to secure the victory.
High Point (26-17) out hit the Wildcats, 16-9, with the help of three Panthers in the three-hit column, but left 14 on base. Freshman Max Bazin led the 'Cats with a 2-for-5, two-RBI performance, while Fortier also went 2-for-5 with one RBI.
Both teams went for a combined seven errors with five recorded in the final three innings of play, while Davidson (23-22) turned in a game-high two double plays on the day.
Westin Whitmire (1-1) was the sixth and final Wildcat to appear on the mound, allowing just one run, which was unearned, off three hits and two strikeouts in 2.2 innings for the win. Two other 'Cats didn't give up a run, including Durin O'Linger and Andrew Ashur.
In a predetermined staff day, High Point saw nine Panthers on the mound, including Andrew Gottfried (4-4), who faced the final for batters and allowed two unearned runs off two hits in the final 0.1 inning for the loss.
The Wildcats will enjoy a weekend off before traveling to Dayton on Thursday, May 12 for a 12 p.m. first pitch.
