SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – Despite a two-out rally in the ninth, the Davidson baseball team fell to Saint Louis, 2-1, Friday night in game one of the weekend series at the Billiken Sports Center.
After the Billikens (18-24, 9-4 A-10) scored solo runs in the third and eighth, Davidson (21-21, 8-8 A-10) rallied on two outs with two doubles that scored its first run in the top of the ninth, but it wasn't enough.
Saint Louis recorded two extra-base hits, which included a solo homerun in the eighth that secured the ballgame.
In a pitchers dual, the Wildcats out hit the Billikens, 7-5, while both teams were flawless defensively. Max Bazin led both teams with another mulitple-hit performance, a 2-for-3 outing for his seventh of the season.
On mound, Clark Beeker (7-3) pitched all eight innings for the Wildcats, limiting the Billikens to just five hits with three strikeouts.
Matt Eckleman (7-3) pitched the first 8.2 innings for Saint Louis, allowing one run off seven hits with seven strikeouts, before Brett Shimanovsky recorded the final out for his first save of the season.
The two teams will return to the field tomorrow, April 29 at 3 p.m. ET.
