‘Cats Win 6th-Straight with 10-2 Victory over UMass

DAVIDSON, N.C. – In addition to Jake Sidwell's 3-for-4, two-RBI performance, Clark Beeker allowed only two runs in eight innings to remain undefeated as the Davidson baseball team downed Massachusetts, 10-2, in both teams' conference opener Friday night at Wilson Field.
The Wildcats have won six straight as they improved to 13-9 overall and 1-0 in the Atlantic 10.
The loss drops UMass to 3-9 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
On the mound, Beeker recorded four strikeouts with no walks as he picked up his fifth win of the season. Austin Leonard pitched the final inning for the 'Cats, striking out the final batter to secure the victory.
Davidson edged the Minutemen, 11-10, in hits, while UMass committed four errors. The Wildcats were flawless on the field and turned in one double play on the night.
Sidwell led both teams with three hits and also scored twice, while two other Wildcats picked up multiple-hit performances, including Aaron Tovsky (2-for-3, 2-RBI) and Sam Foy (2-for-5, 1-RBI).
The Wildcats raced out to a 6-0 lead in the second inning, thanks to five hits including a two-RBI double from Tovsky that sparked three more hits to close the inning with the commanding lead.
After the two teams traded runs in the fourth, Davidson picked up insurance runs in the seventh and eighth to secure the ballgame.
Ryan Moloney pitched 6.1 innings for the Minutemen, allowing eight runs – seven earned – off 10 hits with three strikeouts and four walks for the loss.
The two teams will return to Wilson Field tomorrow, March 26 with a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
