Davidson Drops 6-5 OT Decision at Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond's freshman Kim Egizi scored the game-tying goal in regulation and then assisted on the game-winning goal in overtime to help send the Spiders to a 6-5 win over Davidson Saturday at Robins Stadium in Atlantic 10 women's lacrosse action.
In a defensive battle, the Wildcats held a 5-3 lead after back-to-back scores from Christine Molinari and Arden Simone with a little less than 16 minutes left in the game. But the Spiders (6-6, 3-0 A-10) countered with three straight goals, including the game-tying score from Egizi with 1:38 left in regulation. Then with 3:10 on the clock in overtime, Bailey Zerr netted the game-winner off a pass from Egizi.
Davidson fell to 3-7 overall and is 0-2 in its first two league games. Both defeats have come by single goals.
Molinari paced the 'Cats with a season-high two goals, while three other players scored a goal each. Morgan Burch and Emily Rademacher each picked up an assist.
Richmond's Egizi finished with three goals and an assist for four points. Anna Jeszeck had two points on a goal and assist, while two other Spiders recorded a goal.
Both teams played to a 3-3 tie in the first half. Molinari put the Wildcats on the board with a score at the 18:08 mark and Nicole Pettiglio followed later with her 13th goal of the year for a 2-1 lead.
Rademacher broke up a 2-all tie with her 15th score, but Richmond tied it once again before the half ended with Egizi's second goal of the half and 1:12 remaining.
Davidson got the first two goals of the new half, but Richmond responded with three unanswered goals for the win.
The Spiders outshot the Wildcats, 24-14, while holding a 17-6 edge on groundballs. They also had one more draw than Davidson at 8-7.
Goalie Katy Boyle finished with her second straight double-digit save game, and fourth of the season overall, stopping 10 shots. She also had two of Davidson's groundballs.
Emma Sissman hauled in four draw controls, while defender Holly Thomas finished with two groundballs and a caused turnover. She has a team-high 16 caused turnovers on the season.
Richmond's Emily Boyce stopped six Wildcat shots in goal.
Davidson comes back home for a pair of A-10 games, starting next Friday, April 10, against George Mason.
