‘Cats Down Dayton For First A-10 Series Sweep Saturday

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson baseball team picked up its first Atlantic 10 Conference series sweep by downing the Dayton Flyers in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Wilson Field.
 
The victories improved the Wildcats to 18-15 overall and 8-7 in the league, while the Flyers dropped to 11-27 on the season and 2-13 in the A-10.
 
On Friday, Davidson ran by Dayton, 9-4, in game one of the weekend series.
 
Davidson will return to Wilson Field Tuesday, April 21 to host Winthrop at 6 p.m.

Davidson started the day off hot as it blanked Dayton 11-0 in game two of the series that started off the doubleheader Saturday. Prior to first pitch, the Davidson baseball program honored its nine seniors in a special Senior Day ceremony.
 
 Senior LHP Rob Bain had a career day on the mound to lead the Wildcats to his first-career shutout. The Concord, N.C., native pitched all nine innings, limiting the Flyers to just six hits with one strikeout for his second win of the season.
 
This marks the first shutout for Davidson since April 26, 2014 when the Wildcats downed Appalachian State, 12-0. Danny Mooney pitched all nine innings for the 'Cats.
 
Offensively, Davidson out hit the Flyers, 15-6, while Dayton committed three errors compared to the Wildcats' one. Second baseman Sam Foy led both teams as he went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI. First baseman David Daniels followed with two hits, one run and two RBI in four at bats. Three other Wildcats notched two hits.
 
After scoring two runs in the first at bat, Davidson secured the contest with four runs in the third inning. The 'Cats impressed with four runs scored off five hits, including two doubles with no Flyer errors.
 
 Dayton struggled on the mound as four Flyers show action, including starter RHP Noah Buettgen who pitched six innings and allowed seven runs off five hits with four strikeouts.

Davidson kept the momentum going in the final game of the series as it downed Dayton, 9-2, to complete the sweep. Game three was originally scheduled for Sunday but was moved to a doubleheader due to predicted rain.
 
The Wildcats outhit the Flyers, 15-8, while no team committed an error. Starting pitcher Ryan Lowe led the way as the senior went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. First baseman David Daniels also had an impressive day, also picking up three hits with one run and three RBI in five at bats. Both Daniels and Lowe each recorded a homerun. Shortstop Alec Acosta also tallied three hits for the 'Cats.
 
In each of the four innings scored, Davidson picked up at least two runs to secure the contest. Dayton's two runs were solo homeruns that came in the second and sixth innings.
 
On the mound, Lowe picked up the win for the 'Cats, allowing the two runs off six hits with four strikeouts in 6.2 innings for his first win of the season. Three other Wildcats came in for relief and kept the Dayton score at two, including senior RHP Matt Saeta who pitched the final inning and faced five batters.
 
Three Flyers appeared on the mound with RHP Bradley Horn pitching the first three innings and allowed four runs off five hits with three strikeouts for the loss.
 
Davidson will return to Wilson Field Tuesday, April 21 to host Winthrop at 6 p.m.
