LYNCHBURG, Va. – After a sluggish start, Davidson rallied with two goals in the second half, including the eventual game-winner from Maxi Pragnell to defeat Liberty, 2-1, in non-conference men's soccer action Saturday at Osborne Stadium.
Ranked for the first time since 2009, the Wildcats are off to a five-game unbeaten streak for the second straight season as they improve to 3-0-2, while the Flames suffer their first setback falling to 4-1-1.
With the score tied 1-1 late in the contest, Alan Reiter and Shane Macnamara connected with Pragnell, who put away his second career difference maker with just over four minutes left.
Macnamara, who leads the Wildcats with three assists on the year, finished with a career-high six shots, including five on goal.
Davidson, which trailed the shot column 7-2 at the break, finished with a 12-11 advantage, including eight on frame.
Bay Kurtz gave the Flames an early 1-0 lead when he forced a turnover and connected on the first shot of the game near post in the 14th minute.
Junior George Kaloudis couldn't have picked a better time to score his first career goal as he provided an equalizer at the 66:56 mark following a John Pace corner kick.
Prior to Kaloudis' strike, junior forward Valeriy Sviderskiy threatened with a number of chances.
Scott Sutarik led both keepers with six saves, while Matt Pacifici stopped three for the Wildcats.
Davidson will continue its four-game road swing Wednesday evening with a 7 p.m. kickoff at No. 7 and 2013 College Cup participant Virginia.
