DAVIDSON, N.C. — Junior Brady McGlone scored on a 61st-minute header to lead the Davidson men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Fordham on Wednesday night at Alumni Stadium.
The win marks Davidson's first-ever victory over Fordham (5-7-2, 3-3-1 Atlantic 10) and moves the Wildcats (4-5-4, 3-3 A-10) into sixth place in the conference standings as they push for an A-10 tournament berth.
After a scoreless first half in which both teams generated three shots and Fordham put just one on target, Davidson came out with an aggressive offensive approach in the second half. McGlone put three headers on target before converting his fourth, heading home a corner kick sent into the penalty box by Charlie Frink.
The goal was McGlone's first of the season and second of his career. The junior defender and midfielder entered the match leading the Wildcats in total shots on the year.
Fordham searched for an equalizer over the final 30 minutes but managed only one shot on goal in the second half. Davidson faced late adversity when senior captain Ayman Maadir received his second yellow card in the 85th minute and was sent off. Despite playing down a man for the final five minutes, the Wildcats fended off the Rams' late push to secure the shutout victory.
