DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Davidson field hockey team will round out its four-game home swing this weekend when they play host to two games at Belk Turf Field. The 'Cats will face off against Catawba College on Friday evening at 7 p.m., then will take the field against Monmouth on Sunday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. After these two contests, the Wildcats will take to the road for five games, returning on Oct. 18 when they host Bryant University.

Scouting the Wildcats: Davidson enters the weekend with a 2-6 mark overall, and are 0-1 in NorPac conference play, losing 5-2 to Longwood in their only conference match on Sept. 20. After dropping a pair of games this past weekend to Longwood and No. 1 Wake Forest, the 'Cats are an even 2-2 at home. Senior Tyler Kirkland has been carrying the offensive load lately for Davidson, having scored a goal in each of the last two games. She is tops on the squad with three goals on the year, and is in a tie for fourth in the NorPac with a team-high eight points overall (3 goals, 2 assists). Kirkland has been a model of efficiency so far, with her three scoring strikes only taking the minimum three shots. Freshman Kathelijn van der Ven is the team leader with 17 shots taken, and is second with six points (2 goals, two assists). In goal, junior goalkeeper Christa Goeke has recorded 27 saves in six games, with senior Brittany Rollek making a pair of appearances and notching ten stops.

Scouting the Lady Indians: Following their 2-0 win over Roanoke in their first home game of the season, Catawba is currently 2-6 on the year. The Lady Indians, who play in the South Atlantic Conference of Division II, carry a 1-4 road record and have dropped both of their neutral site games. Susan Hearns is their lone double-digit scorer on the season, with six goals and an assist for 13 points. Four different players have multiple goals, including Nikiah Knox, who is second on the team with four scoring strikes. They have played two goalies in each of their six games, with Sam Vidal leading with 39 saves in five starts and 280 minutes of action. Right behind her is Tori Shriver, who has been between the pipes for 282:25 minutes, and has 30 stops.

Scouting the Hawks:
Monmouth is looking for their first victory of the 2008 season, having lost their first seven games so far, including a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Lafayette last Wednesday evening. Three players have accounted for goals on the year, led by Sarah Keppel with three scores. Aileen Bosemans has contributed a pair of goals, with Janine Rini also recording a scoring strike to go along with her one assists, the only player with at least one of each. Melissa Katz has been in the goal for every minute of the year, making 37 saves and allowing 17 goals for a goals-against-average of 2.98. The Hawks will face off against Appalachian State on Saturday afternoon at Davidson's Belk Turf Field.

The Series: Friday night's meeting between Davidson and Catawba mark the 57th time these two teams have faced off all-time, making this series the most-played in Davidson history. Catawba was the very first opponent in Wildcat field hockey history, a 3-1 Davidson victory in 1976, which was Wildcats' first-ever win. The 'Cats hold a 40-16 lead in the series, including 12 wins in a row, by a combined score of 119-11. Last season, Davidson took home a 12-1 victory over the Lady Indians at Belk Turf Field. On the other end of the historical spectrum, this is the first-ever meeting between Davidson and Monmouth. Davidson is 5-1 all-time against teams from the Northeast Conference, of which Monmouth is a member.
