DAVIDSON — Sib Naaktgeboren scored two goals and moved atop the Davidson record book as the Wildcats topped Queens 3-1 in field hockey Sunday afternoon at Carol Grotnes Belk Turf Field.
With the Senior Day win, the Wildcats closed the regular season 10-8 and with double-digit wins for the first time since 2011. Sunday's victory also secured a winning record for the first time since that same season, regardless of how the Wildcats fare in next week's Atlantic 10 Tournament.
Naaktgeboren entered Sunday's game with 18 goals, which matched the single-season record set by Cathy Inabnet in 1980. Her 19th came just 58 seconds into the second quarter and gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. She received a long pass from Matilda Collins, which took her to the left of the goal. She settled, spun to her right, sliced in front of the goal and tapped the ball in.
Her second goal of the day and 20th of the year came 4:22 into the second half and made it 3-0.
Hannah Merritt scored Davidson's second goal with 5:32 left in the first half.
Davidson dominated possession, evidenced by a 16-2 advantage in penalty corners and a 30-6 margin in shots.
Goalkeeper Avery Foster made three saves.
Prior to the game, the Wildcats recognized their senior class of Naaktgeboren, Brennan Bazant, Sarah Grace Clifton, Celie Constantine, Emelia Little, Hannah Merritt, Ava Mickel and Erin Walsh.
