FARMVILLE, Va. - Despite playing an even 34 minutes of action, the Davidson field hockey team allowed three unanswered goals to Towson, falling 3-0 Saturday afternoon in Farmville, Va.
Neither team was able to find the back of the cage until 16 seconds before half time when Towson got on the board first via a deflected score by Danielle Wacker. The Tigers also got scores from Angie Brower at the 46:13 mark, and then reached the final 3-0 tally on another deflection goal by Kristie Blumer.
Davidson goalkeeper Christa Goeke recorded a season-high 10 saves on the night, the most for either team. Offensively, freshmen Kathelijn van der Ven and Gray Robinson tied for the team lead with three shots apiece, with Clare Perry also taking a pair of shots, both of which found the goal.
As a team, Davidson trailed 19-10 in total shots, and also had a 14-6 defecit in penalty corners.
With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 2-4 on the season, and will begin a four-game homestand next weekend when they host Longwood on Sept. 20. Towson retains their undefeated 5-0 record, tying the record for the best start in school history.
